Captain of River Haven, loving husband. Wonderful father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Friend to all. Passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 3rd, 2018. He was born to Nina Mallison Dunbar and Rufus Dunbar in Pinetown, NC on September 6th, 1932. Had five siblings (all deceased), Cecil Dunbar (Lona), Edna Erle Olive (Derwood), J.C. Dunbar, Gerald Dunbar, and Rachel Sweatte (Leo). He came to Elizabeth City the same day that President Franklin Roosevelt stopped by Elizabeth City on his way to visit the Lost Colony in Manteo, NC. He is the former owner of C.V. Perry Hardware and worked at All-State Building Supply until he retired. He was a former City Councilman and enlisted in the National Guard. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Dunbar, of 63 years. He had 3 children Gwen Rogerson (Danny), Dallas Dunbar (Traci), and Perry Dunbar (Ali). Had a total of 8 grandchildren Tim Rogerson (Kerrin), Andrew Rogerson, Annie Rogerson, D.J. Dunbar, Austin Dunbar, Matthew Dunbar, Taylor Dunbar, and Sydney Dunbar followed by one great grandchild Lillian Rogerson, as well as best friend Jimmy Vaughn. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a Mason in Eureka Lodge 317, York Rights, Martin Anderson Senior Center, and Elizabeth City Senior Center. He was a former member of the Elizabeth City JCs, Elk Club, Moose Club, Pine Lakes Country Club. A former coach of a girls volleyball team. He loved the river, boating, teaching children to ski, football, tennis, softball, Washington Redskins, Young & The Restless, Thai Chi (with Min), but most of all he loved mixing Gin and Tonics and spending time with family and friends. Funeral services to be conducted by Son-in-Law Danny Rogerson at Beckman-Williamson Funeral Homes and Crematory on Wednesday December 5th, 2018 at 11am.
