George Schnichels was born on Dec. 5, 1942 in Buffalo Lake, MN and was translated to glory on July 28, 2018 in Melbourne, Fl. He took all of his schooling in St. Paul, MN and graduated in 1960 from Mechanic Arts High School there. He lived in St. Paul for the next fifteen years until 1975 when he relocated to Jacksonville, Fl While in Minnesota he worked mostly at Montgomery Ward in the paint department and also as a regional manager.

In Florida he worked as a retail Store Manager for Montgomery Ward and Walmart and then finally before retirement in 2008 at Luhrs/Mainship (a boat and yacht builder). From there he and Janice moved to Melbourne, Fl to be closer to family, including seven of their 12 grandchildren.

George’s hobbies included watching sports and Western movies and t.v. shows. He loved antique cars and also collecting mallard ducks. He always had a dog, the latest being “Buddy.” George had a twinkle in his eyes and enjoyed “harassing” his family with his gregarious sense of humor! He loved to give tractor rides to his grandchildren when they visited him and Janice in St. Augustine near Jacksonville, where they lived on a piece of land with a pond and even a small barn.  

George was a member of the Catholic and Lutheran Churches throughout his life and was an active member of the Lutheran Church both in Jacksonville and Faith Viera Lutheran Church in Viera, Fl.

He is predeceased by his father and mother (George and Helen); his sister Marlene Lakie and brother-in-law Roy Lakie.

Survivors include his wife Janice (married for 32 years); his step-daughters Danielle (Patrick) Paquette of Melbourne and Deborah (Marc) Stewart of Merritt Island, Fl . ; daughters, Julie of Cal.; Mary of Switzerland, Fl; and Teresa of Winter Haven, Fl.  His siblings include Eleanor (Larry) Woelfel of MN; Diane Schwier of MN; Marlys (Terry) Woelfel of Melbourne, Fl; Mary (Brad) Nelson of Melbourne, Fl; Judy (Tom) Barrett of MN; and brother Peter Schnichles of MN. Twelve grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
