Barbara Ann Mangum
A Loving and Caring Soul
Barbara was born in Red Bank New Jersey on July 4th, 1951. She was the daughter of the late William J. Knight, Sr. and Helen R. Knight. Barbara, along with her family moved to Cocoa Florida in 1961. She attended the public school system and was a proud Cocoa Tiger Alumni. She lived her entire life in Cocoa and was proud of her community. She enjoyed being the Big Sister to her loving siblings Bill Knight Jr. Patricia Knight Corbett and Michael Knight. They will miss her dearly. Barbara instinctively felt a calling to help others. As a teenager she volunteered as a Candy Striper at Wuesthoff Hospital. She completed her RN Degree in 1979. During her 37 year career, she worked at Wuesthoff Hospital, Health First, Home Health Care and Cape Canavera Hospital. One of the joys in her life was to meet new people. In Barb’s world there were no strangers only friends that she hadn’t met as yet. She especially enjoyed working as a Pre-Op Nurse. In that position she helped thousands of people and reunited with many old friends that she knew growing up in Brevard County. She had a gift of making everyone feel at home. She would often be so excited to let her family members know who she saw at work that day or who she met at work that day.
Barb and Julian Sidney Mangum Jr were married September 11th 1971 in her Mom’s backyard. They raised four wonderful boys, Julian Sid Mangum III, Jason Mangum, Josh Mangum and Jacob Mangum who married four wonderful women, Kim (in loving memory), Sandra, Andrea and Iva. Barb was proud of all of them and their families. There was nothing more important than her family and there were always exciting things happening. Ball games, Camping, Canoeing, Fishing, Church Activity, Indian Guides, you name it. In good times and bad, they worked together as a family unit.
She was the PROUD Grand Barb to Sid IV, Alicia, Jason Jr, Evan, Layla, Leo and Bella and the PROUD Great Grand Barb to Brooklyn, Maddalyn, Sarina, Kylie, Breonna, Cooper, Easton, and baby Emma on the way.
She passed away the day after her 50th Wedding Anniversary at Peace and with Love in her heart surrounded by her family, friends and knowing she had done her job here on Earth creating a large loving family and helping others in every way she could.
Per her request there will not be a grave site service. Thank you for all your kind words, prayers and support.
